Nice to see young people taking an interest in beekeeping. One of the upsides is that they also like bright fun colors. Doug Smith has been bee mentoring one of our new members Helen with her new hives.
Tons of bee swarms call have been coming into the guild. Remember safety first when capturing swarms.

It's Honey Bee Swarm Season 2011
It's honey bee swarm season. Guild members are getting calls everyday now. This swarm is from our hive and went over to our neighbor's yard. It funny that this is one of few living plants they have in their backyard. Most of the yard has been paved over.
This was an easy rescue and the girls will have a new home tonight.

Manuka Honey
At last night's guild meeting there was mention about Manuka honey not being safe to eat. After some super quick Internet research on the subject (some members of the guild grew up eating Manuka honey) this type of honey is known to have a high level of methylglyoxal (MGO) which if taken in large doses or in concentrated form is not good for the human body. The levels of MGO in Manuka honey varies from very low to very high. So I believe (I'm no chemist) that eating manuka honey is fine but not to be confused with the MGO honey made to be used as an ointment.
